Detachment 37, Operation Support Aviation

Detachment 37, Operation Support Aviation, the Kansas Army National Guard’s fixed wing flight detachment, Topeka, left for duty in the Central Command (CENTCOM) area as part of Operation Iraqi Freedom.  The unit was commanded by CW5 Wayne Spry.  Reporting first to Ft. Benning, GA, they were then sent to Iraq and Kuwait.  Flying their C-12 airplane, they provided transportation of high ranking officials, emergency leave soldiers, and civilians with special duty assignments.  Destinations included Baghdad, Mosul, Tikrit, Ballad, Basra, and Tullil in Iraq.  They returned home and were released from active duty on Aug. 20, 2003.
