35th Military Police Company
Seventy soldiers of the 35th Military Police Company deployed for duty in Kosovo on June 2, 2004 as part of Operation Enduring Freedom. Commander of the unit was CPT Courtney Prewitt, Garden City. During the deployment, the unit served as the headquarters element for military police of the National Guard from Indiana and Ohio. Their mission was to provide support for the multinational effort to provide safety and stability to the people of Kosovo. They returned to Kansas on March 9, 2005.
On Apr. 4, 2006 a small contingent from the 35th Military Police Company began a 12-month overseas deployment in support of Operation Enduring Freedom in Djibouti, Africa. They were attached to the 1st Battalion, 294th Infantry Regiment, Guam Army National Guard. From their base in Djibouti, they provided personal security for high ranking officials going into and out of the combat zone visiting troops and conducting diplomatic visits to other nations. They returned home on June 10, 2006. While there, they had provided personal security for high ranking officials going into and out of the combat zone.
They were replaced in Djibouti by another contingent from the 35th Military Police Company, who deployed on Feb. 8, 2006 to ensure that transition training was complete. They had initially trained at Schofield Barracks, Hawaii, before deploying to Djibouti. The second contingent would return to Kansas in 2007.
Deploying in 2007 in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom were approximately 170 soldiers of the 35th Military Police Company. They had been supplemented by 85 soldiers from the 1st Battalion, 635th Armor, headquartered in Manhattan. The unit was commanded by MAJ Robert Stinson.
Following a departure ceremony at Hayden High School, Topeka, the unit was deployed first to Fort Bliss, Texas for additional training, then was sent to Iraq in early fall to perform military police operations, with their primary mission being perimeter security on a prisoner compound. They returned to Kansas in 2008.
